Do you use car apps? Apps can do crazy things nowadays in this era of modern technology, like automatically detect when you're driving and put your phone on Do Not Disturb, or even locate your car if you’ve lost it in Asda’s car park. But they can also find you the quickest route, find you the cheapest petrol prices nearby, find you a place to park, rent, buy and sell cars and many more useful things.

Maybe you swear by them, maybe you religiously stick to the ones you know, or maybe you’ve never used one before and we can convince you to give it a go - here is a list of Beverley Motor Works' favourite car apps for each need.

TO FIND PARKING, JUSTPARK

It’s not uncommon to Google “Where can I park my car in…”, particularly when we’re about to drive to a new place and want to arrive without the stress and extra time of roaming around looking for parking. Fortunately, the JustPark app tells you exactly where there’s a space available on somebody’s driveway, how much it will cost upfront, and it’s very low hassle. You can reserve a spot in advance across the whole of the UK for great prices.

One downside of putting all your eggs into this app is that not all parking spots will be within close proximity to where you need to be. For example, if you wanted to be in a town centre, you’d be no good paying for a parking spot on a users’ driveway on the outskirts of the city.

FOR EASY TO FOLLOW NAVIGATION IN THE UK, GOOGLE MAPS

You can’t go wrong with perhaps the simplest navigation app - plus it’s free. This app may already be automatically installed on your mobile so we figure why stray from what already works when it gives the user turn-by-turn directions and factors in real time traffic updates.

Google Maps drains your phone’s battery pretty quickly though, particularly when used on an Apple iPhone device (is anyone really surprised), so just make sure to attach it to a mobile charging port or battery pack before you set off on a long drive.

TO REPORT A BREAKDOWN, AA

When things go wrong on the roads, you want to deal with the issue quickly. If you've broken down on the motorway or got a flat tyre, the AA app lets you report a breakdown in minutes. It even allows you to track down your mechanic after you've called them. The AA app is actually a great all-rounder if you want something all in one place, so if you dislike Google Maps, you can use the AA app for navigation too to beat traffic, avoid tolls and congestion charge zones too.

Beverley Motor Works have been accredited by the AA as part of their Garage Guide, and we're the only garage in the Beverley area to carry this accreditation.

TO RENT CARS, TRY RENTALCARS.COM

Perhaps with the easiest name to remember, it really says what it is on the tin. This free worldwide car hire app is compatible with iPhone and iPad so you can look for your rental car from any location without having to download individual agency apps. It combines information from all the big car rental agencies and puts it in one place, allowing you to scour through tens of thousands of locations to search for a rental car.

The waiting time of getting the car when you get to the pick up location is a different matter, but the app itself is simple and easy to use.

TO BUY OR SELL A CAR, LOOK AT AUTOTRADER

Whether you use their well-designed app or their website, AutoTrader is one of the most helpful platforms to buy and sell new and used vehicles. With easy to navigate and functional pages, you can save your results, compare cars, use advanced filters to narrow your search, and choose by price, manufacturer, mileage, model and more to find the car you want.

The app can also collect all your important information and dates about your insurance so that you can easily and quickly refer back to them when necessary - but we have a nifty guide you can read here on how you can get cheap insurance if you need help with that.
